Lighthouse Health & Wellness Welcomes George S. Everly, Jr., PhD, MA, ABPP as Clinical and Educational Director

Dr. Everly is a public health scholar and clinical psychologist who brings 50 years of experience as an instructor, clinician, and researcher. From 2000 to 2025, he was the world’s top-ranked author in the field of psychological first aid, according to PubMed PubReminer. He has a Google Scholar profile showing over 10,000 citations. A Fellow of the Academy of Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry and the American Psychological Association, Dr. Everly has held faculty appointments at Loyola University Maryland, Harvard University, The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 1989, with Dr Jeffrey Mitchell, he co-founded the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. He has received the Director’s Award from the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Honor Award from the Baltimore Police Department, and the Leadership Award from the American Red Cross.
Dr. Everly has shaped the global understanding of first responder psychology and critical incident support. In this role, he will help Lighthouse establish and refine the clinical and educational frameworks that support our evolving training ecosystem and our long-term priorities. His work will also include advising as we enter formal research across disciplines, with particular focus on longitudinal outcomes that strengthen responder wellness over time. This work supports Lighthouse’s ongoing effort to build practical, culturally informed tools that reflect the realities of frontline work and the larger systems in which public safety agencies operate, with peers continuing to serve as the core of sustainable responder wellness.
Lighthouse is also working to formalize a Responder Resilience Infrastructure model designed to build foundational support at the state and national levels across disciplines. These initiatives remain core to Lighthouse’s strategic direction. Dr. Everly’s involvement enhances the educational and clinical depth of this work, while Lighthouse will continue to lead its design and Implementation.
